I was invited by the Lead4Life Organization to volunteer for the 11th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at the Alfred D. Noyes Children Center! It was a very eye-opening experience, and I enjoyed it very much. It was such a rewarding feeling to serve meals to the juveniles and their families. We stood behind the table of food as the units (different groups of juveniles) walked in. Some tears filled my eyes as the juveniles reunited with their families. It was evident how happy they were to be together and how much they had missed each other. After blessing the food, the juveniles were called up by their table to get in line for their warm meals (all cooked by Ms. Jen, the founder of Lead4Life!). As the last person received their food, I talked to staff members of Lead4Life and some members of the Maryland Council Committee (also there to volunteer). I then helped the staff pick up trash from the juveniles. I mingled and watched as the juveniles spent time with their families. When it was time for their families to leave, it was heartbreaking to see some tears from the juveniles. This experience has taught me how much I love to volunteer. It has also given me a different perspective about the juvenile and juvenile services. Lead4Life stresses the importance of understanding the juveniles. The organization loves to help the ones in need, and the juveniles are the ones that need help.
